I never fucked up when I played…. But you can Guarantee if I had given away a shit penalty for smashing someone in the face off the ball then 100% I would have blamed my manager…

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Hahahaha – yes thanks Rd. To a higher level than most I’d imagine.

I can’t think of single time a manager – either in football or any other walk of life – has been accountable for my fuck ups. Handy to know though, I’ll point that out to my boss next time I fuck something up that its his fault because he hasn’t ORGANISED me or motivated me well enough.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Have you ever played football Stewie?

All players make mistakes, part of good management is about minimising the amount and the impact and getting your players to capitalise on the oppos mistakes.
This is done by getting your players as fit organised, hungry and confident, we are none of those.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Up until last year I agreed with you 360, have always argued that big investment isn’t needed – and you only needed to look at the beaks in north London for the best example.

Think that last summer, but more so this, it’s gone up another level to the extent that it’s now beyond a joke. We’ll see as the season pans out, but as things stand I don’t see spurs making top 4, Monaco have been raped and RBL I’m not sure are a great example as they spunked a fortune and are hated across Germany for it.

Stewie

"It’s a farce, and makes the whole thing feel pointless."

On the positive side you can still only field 11 players and have a squad of 25. And there are still far more good players in the world with ego's who want to be in that first 11 rather than just collect money.

Add to the problem of having to compete in several competitions at once the more successful you become and it's not so bad really.

You can spend whatever money you want on someone but you still have to integrate them and they still have personality and temperament to deal with.

The last 2 champions didn't even compete in the CL or europa. And look how hard it's been for Man U even with the money they've spent.

I actually think football has become more open in the last few years with all the money available than it's been in decades.

And it's not just our league. Leipzig challenged Bayern pretty well. Monaco actually won the league with a lot of kids. Atletico did it a few years back and got to the CL final. Leicester won ours.

It might sound weird but the money has actually made it far more competitive than less. As big clubs drown in their over spending and smaller more nimble outfits exploit these excesses. It's not a bad time really.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
That applies to most teams stewie, we just seem to be the unlucky ones who literally always have them injured for periods which completely shafts us.

Lanzini is probably as important to us as the obvious world stars around the world, yet considering how many games they play, the likes of Ronaldo, Messi and all other top teams stars are hardly ever bloody injured the lucky Bastard's.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
The thing is I don't just want my team beating the mid and lower table rivals I also want it to at least be seen to put up a fight against the top teams. And yes if we set up to battle all game, defend effectively, hope to menace on the break and capitalise on set pieces so what.

I don't want to hear the fatalism on here of oh they're better than us so I'll accept a low scoring defeat. I want to see some gumption, brio, some defiance and not what we saw too much of last season and on Sunday.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Nothing childish about it – you said we needed an extra defender, and in your next post that we needed another midfielder – I’m simply asking how?

And as for the stuff about us being better with 3 at the back, very short memories. We played 3 at the back when we got smashed 4-0 at home by Liverpool.

stewie griffin 11:37 Tue Aug 15
Re: Why the knicker wetting?
so you want an extra man in defence, and an extra man in midfield?

5-5-0?

stewie griffin 11:35 Tue Aug 15
Re: Why the knicker wetting?
As Bilic himself said, the gameplan was to create 2 on 1 situations – and while we stayed compact and in our shape it worked fine. Rashford did very little in the first half because he got crowded out. He came into it more when the game opened up after we conceded two silly goals.

Plenty of issues around fitness, selection (ayew, and ogbonna, I think he’s a coward) and transfer business for me; didn’t see too much wrong with how we set up on Sunday until we made sloppy mistakes that opened things up. If you go 3 at the back, there’s just different avenues to exploit, which players of that quality will find – and considering the absolute dominance of Matic & Pogba in midfield I’m not sure effectively weakening that area would have made things any better.

Once Lanzini is fit we’ll be fine. And that is the bigger issue for me with regards to Slav and probably the board, I may be way off, but I think one player is THAT important to us.

Willtell 11:35 Tue Aug 15
Re: Why the knicker wetting?
And I meant to add that pitching Noble, Fernandes and Obiang man for man against Pogba, Mata and Matic in midfield was never going to invite errors was it?

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Will ManU win every home game 4-0 this season? Emphatically not. Will WHU have a better first team available, eventually, than last season? Definitely.

The consensus on this Board last week was that we would be defeated and it was going to be the team's overall performance that mattered as a guide to the season. Sadly we came up well short of even pessimistic hopes and the familiar, from last season, signs of lack of comparative fitness and commitment/motivation was hugely disappointing.

Like last season I reckon this squad needs someone to put a Squibb up its collective gonna pooch. I hope the Southampton game provides us fans with some optimism and removes that "here we go again" feeling.

I am talking about the untested new line-up we started at Man Utd. I am not criticizing players as individuals.

Matching Man Utd's 4-3-3 was bound to end in a thrashing. Unless you think Reid & Ogbonna are better against Rashford, Lukaku and Mkhitryan with 2 wing-backs who's usual game plan is to get forward, helping them to defend?

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
erm, yes

Unless you believe that Bilic has the power to make Obiang not dither on the ball, give it away and cost us the opening goal.

I fact, I'd be fascinated to hear how the opening goal was Bilic's fault.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Are some seriously using players making mistakes as an excuse for Billic's clueless management?
